The hospital is one of our three approved inpatient services here in St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS). There are 52 beds available in St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan, where we provide inpatient care to people experiencing diverse mental health difficulties. Accommodation for inpatient service users is mainly in single ensuite rooms. You can find out more about the facilities available in the hospital further below.
A number of our day services are run through our hospital in Lucan. Some of these are delivered in-person, while others take place remotely or in a hybrid format (which is through a mixture of both in-person and remote appointments). See more on our day services here.

Location of St Patrick's Hospital Lucan
St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan is located close to Lucan village in County Dublin; it is a short drive from Dublin city, and is close to the M50 and M4 motorways. You can find a map to our Lucan hospital here.
If you are travelling by car, there is limited free car parking available in the hospital grounds.
A number of buses pass close to the hospital also. Routes C3 and C4 from Dublin Bus travel between Maynooth and Dublin city centre, with both stopping close by the hospital grounds. L54 and P29, which are both local bus routes in the Lucan area, also stop nearby. It takes a five to 10-minute walk to reach the hospital building from the bus stops.

Accommodation
There are 52 beds for inpatient service users in our Lucan hospital. There are 46 single rooms and three double bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom.

Grounds and gardens
Our Lucan campus includes a number of garden areas and a large grounds. Spending time in these natural environments can help to reduce stress and improve mood and cognitive performance.
Visits to the therapeutic garden in St Patrick’s University Hospital can also be arranged for service users in Lucan.

Recreational rooms
There are a number of rooms and spaces in our Lucan hospital for leisure and recreational activities. Service users can access a range of books, magazines and newspapers in our sitting rooms, with several games, including a pool table, also available.
Transport is regularly arranged for service users to access other recreational and occupational therapy facilities in St Patrick’s University Hospital also, including an art room, craft room, pottery room, music room and library.

Mental health information
Access for service users can be provided to the Information Centre, where our staff provide information and resources relating to mental health and our services. The centre is open on weekdays in St Patrick’s University Hospital.

Meals and snacks
Meals are served in a dining area of our Lucan hospital, which is open to inpatient service users only. Vending machines are available in a number of common areas of the hospital for purchasing drinks and snacks.

Technology supports
We offer free WiFi for service users and visitors in our Lucan hospital.
Our Service User IT Support (SUITS) team runs a walk-in service for service users, based near the Nurse’s Office on the ground floor of the hospital, from Monday to Friday. See more on the SUITS walk-in service here.

Physical activity supports
Exercise equipment is available for use in the garden and grounds areas of the hospital campus.
Access to the gym and mini-golf course in St Patrick’s University Hospital can be arranged for service users also.

Pharmacy and GP services
A GP Primary Care Service is available in St Patrick’s University Hospital and can be accessed by service users in our Lucan hospital. This is an appointment-only service, which runs for morning or afternoon clinics from Monday to Friday. Two practice nurses are also available from 9am to 5pm through this service.
We have a pharmacy onsite in St Patrick’s University Hospital. The pharmacy provides dispensing services for inpatients, including inpatients in St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan, and for service users in limited outpatient clinics. Over the counter products are not sold.

Beauty services
Access to a beauty therapist and hairdresser, who offer a range of services for service users, can be arranged. Services are provided weekly in St Patrick’s University Hospital.

Oratory
Religious services are available through the oratory in St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan. This opens daily, with a weekly Roman Catholic Mass celebrated here also. Visits from other religious representatives can be arranged on request also.
