Eating disorder recovery workshops for families

Our Eating Disorder Service team offers a programme for families or supporters of people experiencing eating disorders.

The programme, Supporting an Adult in Their Eating Disorder Recovery: Information and Skills Workshops, aims to support family members and/or supporters of a person with an eating disorder through education and skills development.

Specifically, this programme aims to:

  • enhance knowledge, understanding and empathy in relation to eating disorders
  • explore the concept of behaviour change
  • help with developing useful communication skills
  • improve coping strategies for families and supporters to help reduce burnout and stress.

The programme involves attending an online group workshop once a week, for four weeks in a row. The workshops, which are run by members of our Eating Disorder Service team, take place over two hours in an afternoon session.

The programme is open to family members and supporters of service users here in SPMHS, There is a maximum of 16 participants for each cycle of the programme. Two participants per service user can attend the programme: they can each be either a family member or supporter of the service user.

If you are a service user here in SPMHS and feel your family or supporters would benefit from this programme, please discuss a referral with your multidisciplinary team (MDT).

If you are a family member or supporter of a service user and are interested in attending the programme, please discuss this with your loved one and their MDT.
