Our Willow Grove Adolescent Unit offers care and treatment to young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who are facing mental health difficulties.
Adolescence is a time when teenagers and young people go through important changes and grow as individuals. It's also a time when some young people may experience mental health difficulties for the first time and may require support and treatment.
In St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS), Willow Grove is our dedicated adolescent unit for providing care for young people through inpatient and Homecare services.
Our goal at Willow Grove is to provide excellent care and a supportive environment for young people as they work towards recovering their mental health. We focus on helping young people and their families develop skills and build on their strengths, so they can handle their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, in a more healthy way.
We provide care for young people facing various mental health difficulties, such as:
- mood disorders
- anxiety disorders
- early onset psychosis
- eating disorders
- finding day-to-day living difficult.

Individual therapy and group approaches
The Willow Grove team believes various factors influence the processes of both illness and recovery. Therefore, care and treatment are delivered from a multidisciplinary approach. We adopt a collaborative approach in our work, working closely with the young person and their family, and linking with referrers and community mental health services.
In addition to individual therapy, Willow Grove provides a group programme that focuses on skills to assist and maintain recovery and promote personal development.
Groups include:
- Psychology skills
- Psychotherapy
- Self-esteem
- Assertiveness
- Communication skills
- Wellness and Recovery Group (WRAP)
- Occupational therapy groups
- Music, drama, gym, and activity groups.
Education is also a central component of the programme and is tailored for individual needs, including plans for transition back to school.
Referrals
We are accepting referrals for Willow Grove's inpatient and Homecare services. Talk to your GP or Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team about a referral.
