Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and its relevance to GP practice
On Tuesday, 26 September, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, Aisling Leonard-Curtin and Dr Trish Leonard-Curtin, Counselling Psychologists at SPMHS, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) trainers, and co-authors of The Power of Small, will explore ACT and its relevance to general practice.
This one-hour webinar aims to increase GPs’ knowledge about ACT and explore how to identify when ACT might be helpful for patients. The webinar will also help GPs to integrate ACT into their own lives, which has been shown to increase psychological wellbeing and decrease the probability of burnout. Older adult mental health: A psychological perspective
Dr Karen Looney, Principal Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist, and Dr Cliona Hallissey, Senior Clinical Psychologist, both from our team here in SPMHS will explore older adult mental health from a psychological perspective on Tuesday, 24 October from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
This hour-long webinar will focus on common themes in mental health among older adults and what GPs need to be aware of, as well as explore how to engage older people in conversations about their mental health. Other topics that will be covered include barriers to older people engaging with mental health services and the evidence base of psychological interventions for older adults. Understanding psychosis from a psychological perspective
The final instalment of the 2023 GP Webinar series will take place on Wednesday, 8 November, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
Dr Conal Twomey, Senior Clinical Psychologist here at SPMHS and Adjunct Associate Professor at University College Dublin (UCD), and Tara Deehan, Senior Counselling Psychologist also on our team at SPMHS will present on understanding psychosis from a psychological perspective. This hour-long webinar will explore:
- Psychological lens of experiences of psychosis using the compassion-focused therapy (CFT) model
- CFT as a group intervention and what’s involved in our Compassion-Focused Therapy for Psychosis (CFT-P) programme
- Building a compassionate mindset in managing experiences of psychosis
- Research exploring service users’ preferences for group interventions
- Referring to CFT-P.
