Through our Wellness and Recovery Centre, we run a number of day programmes which GPs can refer directly to. Individuals do not need to be under the care of an SPMHS consultant to be referred to these programmes.
Our Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme is currently accepting direct referrals from GPs. This is an eight-week programme designed to provide experiential practice in mindfulness to participants, incorporating mindfulness skills and strategies in managing stress.
Mindfulness is a practice of focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. Mindfulness allows a person to become more aware of how they can react automatically in ways that are not helpful and can help them deal with concerns more productively.
The programme is held online on Monday evenings, and the next cycle will begin in April 2024. If you have any queries about a patient’s suitability for this programme, please email stedsdayservices@stpatricks.ie.
For information about referring to this programme, contact our Referral and Assessment Service by emailing referrals@stpatricks.ie or phoning 01 249 3635.
Please note that the referrer retains clinical responsibility for the service user while they are attending a day programme in SPMHS. If you are referring a patient to a day programme, the patient must have a diagnosis or history of a mental health difficulty.
